Mail Migration Explained

# Posted Dec 20, 11:52am

As part of the migration to the new servers (and the new features described in a previous blog post) we are changing the formatting of mail usernames.

For example, let’s say that you currently host example.com with Ideanode, and you have 3 mail accounts. One for Joe Example, Sally Smith, and Caleb Chatter.

Right now, your domain information is:

FTP server: www.example.com
FTP username: exampleftp
FTP password: example!isgood

Mail Account: jexample@example.com
Mail Username: jexample
Mail Password: joes-mail

Mail Account: sally@example.com
Mail Username: ssmith
Mail Password: sallys+mail

Mail Account: caleb@example.com
Mail Username: cchatter
Mail Password: fido

Under the new system, the new login information would be (changed information is bolded):

FTP server: www.example.com
FTP username: exampleftp
FTP password: example!isgood

Mail Account: jexample@example.com
Mail Username: jexample@example.com
Mail Password: joes-mail

Mail Account: sally@example.com
Mail Username: sally@example.com
Mail Password: sallys+mail

Mail Account: caleb@example.com
Mail Username: caleb@example.com
Mail Password: fido

The change that you’ll need to make is the way that you log in using your Mail Client, whether it’s webmail or a desktop mail application like Outlook.

We will send you an email with all of the above information prior to your scheduled migration date, and will gladly work with you to make this as painless as possible.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
